EMBRACE WETBOND
RESIN CEMENT RETENTION VALUES
Rationale Embrace Resin Cement should be tested for its intended use: cementation of crowns, bridges, posts and inlays. Tensile strength determined by a pull test measuring retention values is the appropriate parameter and most accurately simulates clinical performance.
Independent testing in an outside laboratory indicates that there was no significant statistical difference when Embrace WetBond Resin Cement was used with or without etching prior to placing the cement. Also, the cement has self-adhesive properties, and it is not necessary to use a bonding agent. The unique Embrace resin chemistry is hydrophilic, behaves favorably in the moist oral environment, and bonds to the slightly moist tooth.
Procedure
- Prepare the tooth to receive a restoration, or prepare
the post hole.
- Rinse the preparation. Rinse post holes with sodium hypochlorite.
Remove excess liquid with compressed air or cotton pellets.
Paper points can be useful for removal of liquid from post
holes. Leave dentin slightly moist. Slightly moist surfaces
exhibit neither dryness nor pooling of water. Surfaces should
be shiny or glossy. Overly wet surfaces will result in decreased
bond strength.
- Mix equal amounts of cement base and catalyst and cement
post or restoration to place.
- Light cure for 20 seconds.
- Allow to self-cure for 7-8 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, place the specimen in water and store
at 37O C for 24 hours.
- After the 24-hour period, measure retention.
Physical Properties
- Compressive strength: 44,500 (1,400) p.s.i.
- Diametral tensile strength: 7,600 (1050) p.s.i.
- Retention value: 32 kg (non-threaded titanium post)
- Film thickness: 12 microns
Indications
Embrace Resin Cement is recommended for cementation of PFM, gold, CEREC and reinforced all-ceramic crowns; inlays; onlays; gold, metal, titanium and fiber posts; and for bonding stainless steel and nylon splinting materials. Optimum mechanical retention is indicated for bonding to zirconia type surfaces. For bonding to ceramic, a well-etched or roughened surface is indicated.
