EDTA SOLUTION, 17%
For the Instrumentation of Root Canals and Smear Layer Removal

This 17% solution of EDTA, which has been buffered to a neutral pH, is used in dentistry as a very effective calcium "binding" or "chelating" material to assist in the instrumentation of root canals.

For root canal cleaning and shaping during instrumentation, the EDTA solution helps decalcify the surface of dentin on the canal wall. This makes it easier to remove dentin with files and reamers and helps the dentist enlarge and shape the canal for filling with sealer and gutta percha.
